New stop of our world tour in Rotterdam. Raphaël Languillon-Aussel, Senior Research Officer at La Fabrique de la Cité, talks to Carola Hein, professor at Delft University of Technology and director of the Chair of History of Architecture and Urban Planning. Traditionally generators of negative externalities, first and foremost of which were diseases, ports are occupying a new place in the world’s urban, logistical and sanitary architecture. By becoming spaces of knowledge, expertise and innovation, they are now providers of positive externalities that contribute to improving the resilience of the cities in which they are located. Carola Hein analyses these ongoing and future paradigm shifts in port development and the relationships between cities, their ports and their hinterland.
