(Architect, Urban and Port Planner at the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority)

Main maritime hub for 80% of manufacturing companies in northern Italy and with over 1,100 concession-holders operating across the port area, Genoa and Savona-Vado Ligure contribute €12.8 billion to the national GDP and €4.6 billion VAT revenue on imports (1st amongst the Italian Port Authorities, accounting for 30% of total VAT generated by the ports).
In terms of employment, the Ports of Genoa play an important role in the local economy: 31,000 direct employees and 77,000 indirect employees.
The Ports of Genoa rank as Italy’s premier cluster in terms of total throughput and the wide range of multi-commodity facilities and services offered: container, general cargo, ro-ro, solid and liquid bulk, overweight cargo, cruise and ferry passengers, ship construction and refit yards. In addition, the major international carriers all have headquarters located in Genoa.
All these key drivers concur to consolidate the Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado’s leadership in the Mediterranean and as southern maritime gateway into Europe. In order to address today’s major transport-logistic challenges, the Port Authority has embarked upon a 3 BILLION EURO INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT PLAN, with over 35 PROJECTS, including both tangible and intangible elements, with a strong focus on the clean energy transition, and an update of the planning tools deployed in support of port governance.
